The project involved installing a 710mm PE siphon next to the existing siphon under the Henderson Creek in West Auckland. The new pipe runs from Royal Road via Colwill Road to the Taipari Reserve on the other side.

  • Install 570m metres of 710mm PE pipe by directional drilling, 200m of similar sized pipe by open cut through mangroves and build several concrete structures.
  • The Pilot Boring was completed using ParaTrack drill guiding equipment and the shot was installed well within tolerances.
  • PipeWorks installed a temporary steel mud return line which ran across the bottom of the Creek.
  • This ensured that all drilling mud could be recycled.

Temporary Causeway

The project required constructing a temporary causeway across mangrove mud flats in order to gain access for building a structure and installing a section of the pipe. The causeway was constructed by our sister company Brian Perry Civil who also took care of most of the concrete structures and the open cut installation of the pipe.

Project Outcomes

  • The project was challenging because it involved installing a large pipe very deep under the Creek firmly bedded in Sandstone.
  • Ecological concerns were foremost on the agenda.
  • The project was completed to specification and on time.
